The Bulldog Palace & Havri

The Bulldog Palace & Havri

  • Probably the most well-known coffeeshop in Amsterdam thanks to the central location at Leidseplein (ironically, the building is a former Amsterdam police station). The Bulldog is actually a chain of Bulldogs spread around the city centre. The Bulldog No. 90 (Oudezijds Voorburgwal 88) was the first coffee shop in Amsterdam and laid the benchmark for the existing coffee shops in Amsterdam. Visiting Amsterdam for a few days and looking for a hotel near Amsterdam coffeeshops? The Bulldog Hotel Amsterdam is located along a canal, you find it at the Oudezijds Voorburgwal 220.

Details

Hands down one of the most iconic coffeeshops in the city of Amsterdam, The Bulldog Palace & Havri is located in a former police station and opened its doors on April 1st, 1985 (this date was chosen deliberately! No joke!). Since then, the establishment has been frequented by tons of celebrities and cannabis lovers worldwide! The shop consists of three sections; The Grand Café (Palace), which rivals the mighty Hard Rock Café, with an ode to the 1970’s L.A. rock scene. A downstairs coffeeshop (Havri), which has a separate entrance and a souvenirs shop.

The beauty of this concept is that you can go down to the coffeeshop, light up a joint and then after you finished it off, move upstairs or sit on the heated terrace to chase the weed down with a beer and burger. Or a full English breakfast, if you are wakin’ and bakin’.
