Cannabis can potentially help with depression through a number of cannabinoids and terpenes that work together through the Entourage Effect. One of the main ways how cannabis is thought to combat depression is through the positive effect CBD has on the production of serotonin by acting on the 5HT1A receptors in the brain. This effect is amplified by terpenes like limonene and caryophyllene. THC, on its own, acts on the CB1/CB2 receptors, creating a buffer against depression due to its psychoactive effect (in low to medium doses). Together, THC and CDB can alleviate the major symptoms of depression like; insomnia, fatigue, loss of appetite and pain.
