Medicinal cannabis to treat Fibromyalgia

Cannabis can help to reduce the symptoms of Fibromyalgia by reducing chronic pain (the main symptom of the disease) throughout the body, but also by alleviating the side effects of the disease. These side effects usually include muscle stiffness, fatigue, insomnia and depression. It has been shown that cannabis can help with all of these symptoms through the workings of the cannabinoids THC and CBD. Specifically THC is known to have pain relieving and energy boosting effects. While CBD helps THC in this process, it also helps to relax stiff muscles, promotes a healthy sleep cycle and aids with depression. The effect of both cannabinoids are intensified – through the Entourage Effect – by the terpenes Linalool and Myrcene, who in their own right also have pain relieving and sleep promoting properties. Similarly, the terpene Limonene seems to enhance CBD’s antidepressant effect.
